Since 1979, an annual national conference, is organized by one of the university departments of epidemiology in collaboration with the Netherlands Epidemiological Society: Netherlands Epidemiological Conference (in Dutch: WEON). This conference offers (young) epidemiologists the ability to present the results of their research and to discuss at national level. The WEON also provides the opportunity for networking.
Since 2005, the Dutch Epidemiological Society has installed three VvE prizes to present during the WEON: the VvE Publication Award for Junior Researchers, the VvE Student Award and the VVE Poster Award. Since 2014, the VvE installed a fourth prize: VvE Achievement Award.
For several years the NES is organizing a number of pre-conferences prior to the WEON. The themes of the pre-conference are contemporary and specifically aimed at certain target groups, such as public health or epidemiology epidemiology education.
