Microcredential “Classic & Modern Methods of Epidemiology”

This 12 ECTS microcredential introduces students to the basic principles of epidemiology. The course begins with an overview of the history and recent and new developments in epidemiology. It then delves into measures of occurrence and association, and the concepts of causality and systematic error. Finally, the main research designs used in epidemiology are discussed. In particular, the general concepts related to cohort, case-control and trials are explained. The course is aimed at PhD students in an appropriate research field (medicine, biomedical sciences, pharmacy…), employees of medical/pharmaceutical companies with a bachelor’s degree, physicians and working people interested in epidemiology with an appropriate bachelor’s degree. Integration within the structure and expertise of the master of epidemiology also makes this microcredential an international experience from the outset. Indeed, the master’s programme welcomes students from all over the world with support from a VLIR-UOS scholarship programme. All classes are taught in English.
